eMagin Corporation Second Quarter 2014 Earnings Conference Call to be Held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y., Jul 31, 2014 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- eMagin Corporation (nyse mkt:EMAN) will release second quarter 2014 earnings and host a conference call that will be webcast on Wednesday, August 13, 2014. Management will discuss financial results for the second quarter of 2014, ended June 30, 2014, and provide a corporate update.
The conference call and live webcast will begin at 4:45 p.m. ET. An archive of the webcast will be available one hour after the live call through September 12, 2014. To access the live Webcast or archive, please visit the Company's website atir.emagin.com .

Here's the Reason eMagin has not been able to announce their participation with a certain OEM regarding the award of ENVG III and FWS: From BAE's Half Yearly Report

Sculley said at one point that the Army would have to approve the announcement and  the Government meaning the General Accounting Office.  Some entity, General Dynamics, Raytheon, L-3 or Company X has filed a Protest over the award to BAE and BAE has to await the protest's adjudication by GAO.  They can uphold, deny or dismiss the protest. Doesn't effect the program just the recipients of the contract funds. At any rate eMagin is shipping on two of the three night vision contracts so I'll guess DRS and Intevac are in the Pipeline and BAE is out in the cold for now. If anyone is interested they can sift through GAO's docket but that there is a daunting prospect. In the recent "resume shipping" announcement to the three night vision contracts eMagin said shipments would resume to customer #3 upon their finishing their qualification process, that may be jargon that anticipates a positive ruling for BAE, just have to wait and see.

"Electronic Systems was awarded a five-year IDIQ contract with a potential value of approximately $445m (£260m) to support the US Army's Enhanced Night Vision Goggle III and Family of Weapon Sights - Individual programme. However, this award is under protest pending a decision from the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) and, depending on the GAO ruling, the US Army."

Who Is Michael Schwandt? Part II

he likes games, subscribes to IGN, Blizzard and other game related YouTube Channels. He attended Bellevue (WA) College. Just throwing it out.  I would put a "Students!" Ad on Craigslist, fun temp job for gamers, good pay etc. or I would list a Job on the Student Union Bulletin Board or place an ad in the Student Newspaper at the local college if I was looking for gamers to test software or hardware. Mr. Schwandt has no background in photonics so under what circumstances or field of endeavor could he refer to himself as a "consultant" at eMagin Corporation?

Sorry Peggy, it makes me laugh.

Pay the man...Highlights from the Oculus Rift's Health and Safety guide

Discomfort
This is the best section—if only to highlight how our bodies are rubbish and frail and we should all have our minds uploaded into indestructible robots. It starts with a worrying list of possible symptoms, including "involuntary movements", "disorientation", and "increased salivation". It's important to know why you're salivating, though: sure, maybe it's an impending sign of projectile voms, but maybe you're in a VR restaurant looking at a nice steak.
Then comes the terrifying prospect on virtual reality exposure:
"Just as with the symptoms people can experience after they disembark a cruise ship, symptoms of virtual reality exposure can persist and become more apparent hours after use. These post-use symptoms can include the symptoms above, as well as excessive drowsiness and decreased ability to multi-task. These symptoms may put you at an increased risk of injury when engaging in normal activities in the real world.
I think what they're trying to say is that after I tried Half-Life 2 on the Rift for the first time, and then later stood at a train station, battling the cold grip of unbearable nausea, I was wrong to use the platform's vending machine.

eMagin OEM Intevac, Night Vision, Apache and "Digital Night Vision Rifle Sights"

Our Photonics business outlook continues to be strong and is on track to grow approximately 30% or to $40 million this year. In the second quarter, revenue increased 37.5% from Q1 to $11 million with a 23% operating margin. Today the primary revenue growth drive, as we’ve discussed on prior calls, is our Apache camera program for the U.S. Army. Our team has done a great job of executing the transition of this program from pilot to full rate production levels. We believe that our performance in Apache program will help facilitate success in other digital night vision programs as it will clearly demonstrate the capability and maturity of our core technology as well as validate our capability as a systems provider.

We’ve also shipped over 7000 camera modules for digital night vision rifle sights.

Why Google Glass on the farm? Transitional lens? That's not going to do anything for Contrast or Resolution

Why TrackingPoint's Big Plans To Supply the Military Is Not On Target

The technology has already been perfected by DARPA and companies like BAE and DRS. They recently touted the ability to "shoot around corners." Already accomplished with FWS-1. The Precision Guided Firearm is a huge leap forward but DARPA had been working on a PGF for a couple of years before John McHale missed that Greater Kudu shot in Africa.  And DARPA's is a Day/Night Scope that can gauge crosswind and correct automatically.  And it's a much smaller clip-on device easily fixed to a Picatinny rail, no need to have the ability dedicated to one squad member. I see why TP is attempting a quick pivot to drones and such. Their largest addressable market is closed for the duration.

No wonder Google has grown disillusioned with the LCOS Displays in Glass With Feedback like this...

This is how Sunthara sees the device as most viable: not something that’s continuously on, but responsive when you need it before or during the operation. Glass’s battery, charged via USB, wouldn’t last through the hospital workday if you kept it on all the time and frequently used features like video recording. Pelletier said that it tends to heat up uncomfortably, sometimes resulting in a headache. And potential side effects of viewing a screen through your right eye for a prolonged period are unclear. Google’s FAQ page for Glassinstructs: “Don’t let children under 13 use Glass as it could harm developing vision.”
Another oft-cited quality issue is that the current Glass screen resolution is not considered clear enough for it to be reliable as a sole viewing point of clinical images or surgical streaming.

In a surprising move at its annual developer conference keynote, Google instead touted other wearables such as smartwatches but failed to mention the Google Glass which a few years ago was the highlight of the conference when skydivers wearing Google Glass parachuted from an airplane to unveil the product. While Google could still support this project and do a formal launch in 2015, both the hardware and software could be much different from the current version suggesting to us that Himax’s LCoS Microdisplay may or may not be the display of choice in the final version.

Pep Talk to Self

eMagin is:

Actively shipping the two largest orders they've ever had to DRS and BAE for Future Weapons Sight.

They are waiting for another large military OEM to qualify a display that required some tweaking to meet their spec in order to be shipped,  just a formality at this point.

Have been contacted by a "number" of entities to develop displays for their particular applications, contracts waiting to be signed. Willingness to do some intensive R&D might indicate that the new DSP OLED Depo Machine is running well and the Satella, their old production machine can now be applied to it's original design intent, R&D.

Have accomplished a Direct Pattern Display which will be 30 times brighter and 5 times more power efficient than any previous OLED display.

They have demoed the DPD display to companies "you have heard of " (Sculley's words) for Aviation HUDs, Consumer Smart Glasses and Commercial AR Glass.

They project quarter over quarter revenue growth for the remainder of the year.

They filed a Mixed Shelf, purpose unknown but capitalizing growth comes first to mind.

eMagin Corp is a manufacturer of microdisplays using OLED technology. It designs, develops, manufactures, and markets OLED on silicon microdisplays, virtual imaging products and related products.

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

What does "broadening one's technology base" mean? The eNigma is becoming less eNigmatic

"the Technology base is what enables an organization to develop new products to meet the current market needs identified by the company, to manufacture these products using the appropriate process technologies to develop or adapt new product and process technologies to meet projected future needs and to respond promptly to unexpected competitive moves or to unforeseen opportunities that require actions involving technologies."

eMagin referred to "broadening their technology base" in their recent "a number of contracts to be signed in the next two months" Press Release.  Did not know at first reading that "technology base" is a term of art with the specific meaning as described above. It seems logical that at least one of these contracts likely involve the first definition i.e. "to develop new products to meet the current market needs identified by the company," especially so in light of eMagin recent demonstrations of the Ultra-high Brightness Display with True-Black that Michael Abrash has never heard of. Coupled with their reference to the "exploding consumer headset market" in the same PR it presents an inescapable conclusion. That they will sign a contract to develop a display for a See-Through Display for Augmented Reality glasses aimed at the consumer. Samsung, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, Other? Who's it going to be?

LCD? You really need to get up to speed Mr. Abash, eMagin's Ultra-High Brightness Displays with True-Black for See-Through AR Glasses is on the way

“But wait,” you say (as I did when I realized the problem), “you can just put an LCD screen with the same resolution on the outside of the glasses, and use it to block real-world pixels however you like.” That’s a clever idea, but it doesn’t work. You can’t focus on an LCD screen an inch away (and you wouldn’t want to, anyway, since everything interesting in the real world is more than an inch away), so a pixel at that distance would show up as a translucent blob several degrees across, just as a speck of dirt on your glasses shows up as a blurry circle, not a sharp point. It’s true that you can black out an area of the real world by occluding many pixels, but that black area will have a wide, fuzzy border trailing off around its edges. That could well be useful for improving contrast in specific regions of the screen (behind HUD elements, for example), but it’s of no use when trying to stencil a virtual object into the real world so it appears to fit seamlessly.

eMagin To Receive R&D Contract Awards :These awards confirm eMagin's OLED technology dominance and signal an increase in the company's contract revenue in the coming quarters

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 17, 2014--
eMagin Corporation (NYSE MKT: EMAN) has been notified it will receive a number of R&D contracts over the next 2 months. These awards represent a significant increase in the company's R&D contract revenue beginning in its third quarter. The company believes these notifications signal an improved outlook for future awards which will allow us to further broaden our technology base and our leadership position in the OLED market.
"We are very pleased our OLED technology leadership and expertise continues to be acknowledged and we look forward to sharing the specifics of these awards as the contracts are signed. eMagin's ultra-high brightness and high resolution technology is critical to government programs and meets the requirements of the exploding consumer personal headset market. Our recently demonstrated Ultra-high brightness full color OLED technology is capable of over 5,000 cd/m2. New development projects will more than double this capability," said Andrew G. Sculley, president and CEO of eMagin Corporation.

Top 10 Augmented Reality Trends for 2014

http://www.seemoreinteractive.com/blog/2014/07/01/augmented-reality-trends-for-2014

Intevac EBAPS : Digital Night Vision, Apache, F-35, Dismounted Soldier DNVG

now that we know Kopin didn't snake one of eMagin big military contracts it remains to be seen who the 3rd customer is who was party to the "stop shipment" request that was recently rescinded. I remember eMagin Investor Opt asked CEO Sculley a couple of years back if the problem that the trouble F-35 was having with the VSI HMDS could be solved by an eMagin display I recall Sculley said words to the effect. "yes F-35 but that's just a few helmets (true, I think their are seven helmets to go out first) but Apache, that is a large
program." The game changer for Intevac is their EBAPS sensor, very efficient at producing digital images and sensing in extremely low light. Intevac previously used an eMagin SXGA with EBAPS in their Night-Port Viewer. It has since been upgraded to a WUXGA Sensor and an eMagin WUXGA display. The entire military where applicable is migrating to Digital Night Vision and Intevac is the winner within this process.

Intevac’s Digital Night Vision Goggle gives aviators the same high level of situational awareness, critical information and increased visual acuity they depend on during the day – at night. Our breakthrough sensor technology enables aviators flying in dark conditions to see images and video as clear as day, increasing mission success.

AMOLED vs LCD : eMagin CEO Sculley has said this as well in reference to Microdisplays citing his source as Samsung

“Until recently there have been few breakthroughs in the production of AMOLED displays, and the OLED industry seemed to be facing hard times,” said Jimmy Kim, senior analyst of display materials and LED at NPD DisplaySearch. “If AMOLED costs fall below LCDs, as expected, it would lead to more opportunities for the OLED display industry, greater competition with LCD, and more choices for consumers.”

Deep Thinker at Forbes Strains the Bounds of Ignorance as He Presents Kopin as The Critical Link For Making Computers Disappear

As a devotee of  Company Obscura I am never surprised when their name is not mentioned but this guys goes a little to far when he references Kopin as providing "Google Glass for Soldiers." This shall not stand. Kopin to my knowledge has never provided a display for a HMD ever worn by a soldier. Weapons Sights, yes, HMD, no. eMagin has provided "Google Glass" for soldiers from Land Warrior, Liteye, SA Photonics, Raytheon, Rockwell Collins, Elbit, Six15 Technologies among others. How is it that even a big time blogger from Forbes doesn't know these things? My belief is that when the computer becomes invisible the invisible company will have provided the means. Meanwhile it's reporting like this.

This Startup Wants To Get Google Glass Into Every Workplace

“This space of wearables in enterprise is about to blast off,” according to Johnsen. What’s convinced Johnsen of this area’s potential for growth is the overwhelming interest he had received from various industries while leading Google’s efforts in figuring out how the technology could work in the workplace.
“A lot of customers are trying to solve the same problem for the past 20 years,” Johnsen says. “There’s been lots of technology we haven’t been able to push out to workers who don’t sit at a desk.”
The types of industries smart glasses fit particularly well in are jobs that require workers to be using both hands and are away from a desk, according to Johnsen. A worker on an oil rig, for example, would usually need to continuously be looking over at an instruction manual while handling such complicated machinery. With smart glasses, they can stay focused on the job. And if something goes wrong, they don’t have to fly in an engineer from Houston to deal with it. Instead, they can guide the worker through the problem using the glasses’ camera.
