CE company wants to know that the Virtual Reality Market will take off, won't know for sure until they see the display in May. (Although those who have seen it behind the scenes like De Lauriers seem convinced this is the ONE Display to Rule Them All.)

China is really interested in this technology, HUD 3.0 ENVG, F-35, Trijicon. Wonder how they might try to get close to these capabilities. Hmm...Derrick? Skarred Ghost?

Speaking of Monocles, BOE is at Display Week, why not their little brother?

PEO Soldier holds successful Soldier Touchpoint on the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle--Binocular (Capt Josh was nervous as to the outcome of these tests in October but he seems to be over it, the ENVG-B is heavier than previous, the mount needs tweaking and the compass was off 4 degrees)

"This was the first time we've had multiple vendors put their ENVG-Bs through a practice operational assessment," said Capt. Josh Redmond, ENVG-B Assistant Product Manager. "We've never done an obstacle course, navigated tunnels or fired Rapid Target Acquisition with any variant of the ENVG-B."

Captain Redmond said the Soldiers wore the ENVG-B while going through obstacle courses and a tunnel complex, and they also carried out weapons and reflexive firing with RTA. In additional, they conducted squad attacks with room clearing and a movement to contact. All testing occurred both day and night.

ENVG-B employs both night vision and thermal-sensing capabilities. The use of white phosphorous tubes, as opposed to the previous green phosphorous tubes, means Soldiers no longer see a green-tinted image. They now see nearly as clearly as one sees normally. Marine Cpl. John T. Fenley said the ENVG-B is so clear he is able to read with them. Being binocular, it also provides users increased depth perception versus that which is offered from the traditional monocular view.

Eugene. The Binocular Display allows for the creation the image of hologram, perceived depth on a flat display, can't be done with a monocle. BTW Peregingo, that pic of Golden-I is flattering compared to what it looks like nestled on your cranium.

Like 3-D Glasses

And the result. ENVG-B is the the Overmatch. Futures Command is up and running in the ATX and it is a priority as they are hiring like crazy. (eMagin inside the ENVG-B)

Additionally, this year the Army tested a new binocular with a wireless connection to rifle sites. The Enhanced Night Vision Goggle-Binocular, or ENVG-B, is scheduled for release to selected units sometime in fiscal year 2019.

The new device has both night vision and thermal-sensing capabilities and stereoscopic binocular depth perception, providing Soldiers with an illusion of depth on a flat image.

During testing, Soldiers had a 100 percent improvement in weapons qualifications, along with a 300 percent increase in detection of targets in day and night environments, and a 30 to 50 percent decrease in the time taken to shoot a target.

Soldiers that tested the new ENVG-B considered it to be "a game changer."

Motorcycle Helmet Market Grows...

It's common now to present Microled as the immediate succesor to LCOS and LCD for AR Applications. Display Daily recently managed to compose an entire article that managed to completely ignore OLED as a viable replacement for the legacy display systems. Like lurker said "It's a curse." More likely ignorance and the desire to be hailed as first to this great discovery. (might add, leading OLED display company is allergic to scrutiny and publicity).

So is Sculley right and microled is at least five years off? Even then. as we have found, there are speed bumps on the way to new technologies. This article seems to be less less sanguine about Microled's coronation as the "Next Big Thing." However, all look to Apple as the eventual titan of AR and if Apple says Microled than every other display technology rides in coach. Disinformation is not a foriegn concept to Apple. It's confusing. Mr. Lumus said "We could be using OLED now" in the Scoble interview. What a tangle. Flex at CES could provide some color. If not, it's SID in May. Let's hope Eric Lauriers is right about eMagin nailing down the go-to VR display. AR seems more problematic with Goliath's ability to surprise. Excerpt:

Most AR glasses since the launch of Google Glass back in 2013 have used a technology known as Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) for their displays. But other display technologies are apparently better suited for these devices. According to Digitimes and its research arm, microLED will become the "mainstream" display technology employed on future AR headsets. Even though others have used laser projection, there is a fear that the laser beams could damage the wearer's retinas.

Based on the report, it would appear that AMOLED displays could be a major challenger to microLED. However, it seems that microLED screens have a lower latency, higher contrast  and a longer lifespan than AMOLED. They are also up to 30 times brighter than AMOLED displays. While it might be the best choice for AR glasses, there are some concerns about microLED.

I'm a little slow. Did not realize the significance of Flex/Lumus/Snapdragon until I saw Scoble fawning interview with Mr. Lumus and this quote by eMagin's recent appointee to their board in this Flex Blog Post. Eugene it's like finding a parts list!

The Flex AR reference design incorporates new OE Vision optics from Lumus and the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 835 mobile processor.

CES attendees clearly understood the value of a turnkey solution and started inquiring about engineering samples. AR is not only a disruptive platform for many industrial uses, it also is a way to gather critical information and insights from the Intelligence of Things®. “Innovative companies want AR because it offers the richest data,” Braddom says, “an amazing enriched data set about how people do their work, what works well and what can be improved - this will lead to a new generation of insights and services that can change how we work.”

https://flex.com/insights/live-smarter-blog/ces-2018-highlight-faster-route-augmented-reality

suspect that a significant amount of that $61 Million shipment of arms from New Hampshire to Saudi was not solely from Sig Sauer and Strum but from the big electro-optic people, L-3, BAE, Elbit.

Varjo – Launching a Revolution in VR (Thanks Chouffe, have never seen this)

Amy Peck EndeavorVR - VR Tuesday #6

Here are some of the awesome weapons and gear US forces will be taking into battle next year

The Marine Corps began fielding the brand-new Binocular Night Vision Goggle II (BNVG II), to Force Reconnaissance and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Marines over the summer with the goal of achieving full operational capacity by spring 2019, which means other Marine MOSs likely aren't far behind. And the BNVG III can't get here soon enough: According to Marine Corps Systems Command, the system's Clip-on Thermal Imager (COTI) "intensifies Marines' ability to see anything in dark conditions, rain, fog, dust, smoke and through bushes that the legacy binoculars couldn't." Predator, anyone?

https://www.businessinsider.com/the-new-weapons-gear-us-troops-will-take-into-battle-next-year-2018-12

When you say "delivered uncompromised system" thinking of a company whose name starts with "K" and ends with "N". In addition I would to hear more about "K and better supply chain coordination." TIA Derrick

http://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org/articles/2018/12/5/viewpoint-supply-chain-must-deliver-uncompromised-systems?es_p=8243958

They went to school on keeping their mouths shut re Military technology. And they are putting that gained experience to work now that they are poised to enter a new sector

This is an excellent example of ignorance and these guys style themselves "experts". Showing PVS-14s is like publishing an Autonomous Vehicle Report and have the Header feature a picture of a Ford Fiesta

Two Rolls of TP

https://industryresearchnow.com/night-vision-gogglmarket-scientific-review-types-and-application-2018-to-2023/65017/

I don't know much about the financial stuff and that is stupid but if somebody could make the Wall Street caes that would be great. Crap financing, beta, float, Mort that would be interesting. A nice "end of year" lookback

All seriousness aside....

One good thing, we have dispensed with the
"Nautical" Metaphors. You can't think about the SS eMagin without your brain flipping through Maritime disasters of yore, Andrea Doria, Spanish Armada, Persians at Salamis, Icebergs, Perfect Storms. My working theory is that it is the last. Their place in the popular imagination seems to be at Enron levels. Jim is very brave to have posted anything positive about the company and it's technology on Reddit. As soon as he does the long knives come out. Let's make these Reddit Trolls surrogates for the investing public.
What's the cause of this you might ask.

1. Their business is predominantly military related. This cuts deeply against Silicon Valley popularizers who have deep prejudices against military spending and "weapons of war."  Being a small military company makes it worse. They sell one component. As viewer said "All they do is sell altimeters to Boeing".

2. A history of false steps.

My Infinite Regression Theory. Every time they to have an open field to run to they trip and fumble. Electronic Viewfinder, Wire Bond, Consumer Night Vision. Their timing is impeccable. I think most blunders save the Wire Bond were shiny objects used to buy time for disgruntled investors.  The consequence of which lowers the interest of potential investors. Everybody now with any sense is from Missouri. Show me.

3. They did it backwards, of course! They evolved to being a "Stealth Company".
It was interesting to see it happen gradually and in a way the stumbles helped them accomplish it. PRs, currying interest from outsiders is not on the menu. What they guard most closely is the technology they sell to the military. From the Soldier Tech Conference I attended 11 years ago to the past AUSA Meeting in October you get major pushback with the most mundane of questions. You literally had to pass through 3 layers of security to look at L-3 ENVG-Bs and questions were met with blank stares.

4. AR/and VR has slid to the right as Malouf said. All the above will be rendered meaningless when they announce a name that sells stuff in a big box store.
The fact that this sector is emerging through Geologic Eons has worn down and eviscerated interest from any one who checks in even occasionally. See Brenda Rose's Tweet below. I need more coffee will add as many paragraphs as my fevered brain allows.

Been given an assignment by Professor Rose. He didn't given a time frame for completion soI'll take the liberty of submitting one sentence....Chapter 1 "It was a dark and stormy night..."

Derrick, could you forward this article to Dr. Fan. I think most of his "5 Rules for 5G" are right here, save him some time, time better spent, "I must say", taking elocution training. AS MUCH as I get frustrated with our guys their timing seems about right in terms integrating their displays into the applications and demand that will arise with VR/AR and supporting eco-system.

part of my slight alcohol fused break down, share price  being the last straw laid upon the poor camel, is the realization reinforced by things seen and heard lately that the level of ignorance around this sector, even by the cognoscenti is limited. It is weird. So there is an element of truth in "getting out of the way of management." They can see all the playing field and I think they have a real good sense of how this will work out, current share price be damned. Anyway, Derrick, don't forget to forward this article to Dr. Fan

Wondered about Boeing and AR. Remember the HUD they were developing for Planes on the runway, tarmac ala Skylens? Not only that. Did not realize AR has long been an interest of theirs. Little, feckless eMagin wedged between LG and Boeing at Korea Conference. Collins, Elbit, Boeing. All are in on AR bigly...

Why AR is a Strategic Area

Our research shows that there are large efficiency gains to be realized, when information related tasks are aided by Augmented Reality techniques.  Augmented Reality is a fundamentally-enabling technology that can be used in a large number of applications throughout the product lifecycle.  As the technology develops and matures, it will be possible to realize these benefits across the industry.

HoloLens meets IoT, Databricks and AI | Best of Microsoft Ignite 2018

eMagin in the thing 640x480 vga because SWAP..The REAP-IR optimizes the S.W.A.P. mindset (size, weight and power) with its small packaging combined with lightweight, rugged features.

So little companies jockeying for position. Kopin's big buddies, Lenovo, China, Realware, Canada, Google (if GG is real and Kopin) they have no loyalties. Just NVIS on the military side, who knows about the future of their Armor Trainer. In time Elbit owns that anyway. eMagin is way ahead with a sure customer base in US, Europe, India so heightening tensions between rivals accrues to their benefit.

It doesn't look like K can talk their way out of their position. They make a lot of noise but they can be tossed. Fraunhofer/Research and Microoled will be left standing as a western friendly competitor. That said, who got the SAFRAN Exclusive?...not Microoled, JSF, same. So eMagin can hold it's ground w/ all those top 12 defense primes until VR hits. And Elf will remain on the shelf. Anxious to hear Doc Fan's geo-political take on all this at CES. Accrue some International Relations Credits.
(Thank you Eugene for translating my ramblings into English)

Wonder if "5 Rules for 5G" will tackle any of these issues e.g. It seems we are in the process of choosing up sides. How does any small Tech company with interests in both straddle these competing interests. Tough one. Is that why Jill was so worried about this heightening tension after Trump's election?

There is no clear end-game for the 5G issue, as both Beijing and Washington posture for the “hearts and minds” – or telecoms networks – of states. What is obvious is that the 5G issue is no mere technical or security problem, but one that has vast implications for the U.S.-China modus vivendi from the economic and political perspectives.
After all, the stage is set for 5G to become a proxy battlefield for global technological, economic and (eventually) military supremacy – and one that peripheral countries must carefully manage to avoid becoming collateral damage in the great power rivalry that is heating up.

Another dimension of all this is the company eMagin keeps. Like it or not, bleeding edge tech or not, large customer base or not, vital to National Security or not, EMAN is seen to be in the same basket as MVIS, VUZI, KOPN

They are unable, unwilling or restrained from telling their story. Why not have Doug Hughes do an interview with DefenseNews or National Interest? There's a story to be told. 9 out of the Top 12 are customers are on this list with Elbit, Saab, Safran, others further down. Just have a techie, Ghosh, Sculley do something with CNET, Techcrunch somebody like that. Does the cloak and dagger extend to an endless horizon? Think my nose is just too close to the window sometimes, companies are jockeying for position now trying to gain advantage when this tech starts to ascend out of the trough. Damn frustrating all that "moving to the right."

that's why all the aggression from shallow pocket companies like K & V and, this is actually reassuring, silence from the company I hate today and probably won't tomorrow. When I take MWs advice I think, they think, "we got this" and "if you dopes don't having the staying power that's on you."

Sculley said super-display will speed this up so let's get going...

5. Consumer VR Promising But Still Soft

Though it leads all XR sub-sectors in revenue today – driven by gaming – VR revenues are beginning to be outpaced by other XR sub-sectors. This is mostly due to flattening revenue from early adopters who themselves plateaued in volume. With that realization, price competition took over the sector in 2018 in order to penetrate further into mainstream consumer segments.

Here ya goJeff, call em if you need em...

We have to salute eMagin's ability to Infinitely Regress, It's Awesome( that said, think you are correct MW, appreciate your steadiness)

On the other hand with a huge predicted market $200k is not a big number to throw at a "crippling" problem.

I guess Intel is not convinced that Cybersickness has been eliminated entirely. Sculley has mentioned that it has and on another occasion indicate there might still be a problem...

But the CES demo will give them a handle on a new pr line of attack

and it will be TVs first, not microdisplays

https://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/microled-vs-oled/

Anybody have the heart to notify Vuzixistan that mass volume of Microled is minimum 5 years away? And as we've found these forecasts tend to be optimistic.

If the obstacles of mass transfer technology and after process repairing could be overcome, it is forecasted that in five years Micro LED will be in the market.

They are not going anywhere. They are part of the critical infrastructure. Now there's no alternative to what they produce. With Wire Bond it was Kopin's last hurrah getting the Raytheon Contract. They have designed other displays out of the programs. US producer and US Foundry. As far as the eye can see. That said. If they can't produce them, tiny little company then sell it to somebody who can.

The declining share price is going to force the board to consider buyout offers. In my opinion a buyout is more likely than a reverse split if it gets to that point.

It took more than a few days to report the wire bond issue. But they did and it was rectified after a time. In that debacle they lost Raytheon as a Prime for TWS.

If there's something wrong don't hide it. Let us know. If there isn't let us know. I know little about market machinations, so I ask, that 275k sell-buy is that something that's arranged between a few parties? Do people really just throw that out into the market? Like everything with this company nothing is clear or certain. I'm thinking as shitty as the market has been lately tax-loss selling makes sense. My sense is that the LD Micro Show was very positive. These guys can be snake-charmers but hard to see what could change so dramatically in intervening days. I wrote and asked for a status report. If more do it maybe they answer. It's not possible to square what they contend in public forums with the pps. The military hardware I am familiar with and have seen with my own eyes. The potential market for Spatial Computing, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Training and Simulation, Medical Equipment, Enterprise, Private Aviation,Civilian use of Thermal, their Customer Base etc.. Do they speak to empty rooms at these cattle calls they go to? IT MAKES NO SENSE. Other than nobody believes em or more strangely don't care about this huge market. Are they so good at muddying the waters that a share of .85 is doable. Are they so good at pissing in the pool that nobody wants to go near it? Are they just terrible salesman. Having DPD Patent alone is valuable. A patent on the process and the ability to manufacture is VERY VALUABLE. IT Makes ZERO SENSE.

"Got your Night Vision right here! Burn the Witch!"

Featuring "The Incapable Andrew!"

If you guys don't mind I'm doing a public service and making this a community Bulletin Board. Nice Kick-Off Atlas. Everybody hates that Night Vision. It's the Whipping Boy.

Jeff had said that the last offering was the last that they will ever need. Jeff is the cause of all this dilution, no foresight. He allowed 2.5 million spending and writedown for the night vision fiasco.
Leadership sucks and it all starts with the incapable Andrew

My dark imagination can conjure up the worst. Assuming there is one. What is the most benign spin on what's happening here? Besides...

Lurker's offering scenario makes sense. Anybody else have one? There are no right or wrong answers.

love that expression "two different movies on the same screen"

and pulling a zeeler and talking to yourself. That must be boring.

Yes Jensen we remember you and your need to beat your chest every time you post. Your view of the present market and going forward is puerile and uninformed.

This may turn out to be another "shoot themselves in the foot" but we'll have to see.

Lucas, Sculley. You guys get a chance to attend? Used to think Schatzman with his "fix is in" stuff and Chouffe's "Dark Forces" was a bit X-Files. I'm coming around.

Agree with MW on this. Lucas just assumed the role as Prez. Sculley said he wanted to be here for the success. I guess somebody maybe didn't agree and Ghosh, yes could right his ow ticket too but nobody knows that much about him. SID insiders and the like.

seems unlikely departure is the reason. Sick of stealth.

can one of you Duchess people look outside and see if there's smoke enveloping the area, acrid smell, perhaps hear a loud blast, sirens, screams? TIA

that circumstantial case is enough to convict Jim, Flex, eMagin, Valve
